Bolivia has one of the lowest numbers of doctors per capita in Latin America. Only half the children under one year old are immunized, and diseases that are preventable by vaccination are a major cause of death. Approximately half of the population of Bolivia has safe drinking water. Rural areas are barely served in terms of medical care.
